President Nayib Bukele has made a unique proposal in a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The proposal mentioned that illegal immigrants should be kept in maximum security prisons. However, America will have to pay a price for that.
Bukele said it would provide an opportunity to outsource a part of the US prison system. President Bukele has recommended that prisoners of any nationality sent by the US be locked up in a facility called CECOT. Where prisoners live in windowless prisons. Donald Trump said that if we had the legal authority to do this, I would do it immediately.
CECOT is El Salvador’s largest prison, opening in 2023. It will have a maximum capacity of 40,000 prisoners. It is made up of 8 large domes. Each cell holds 65 to 70 prisoners. They cannot be visited. The prisoners, wearing boxer shorts, are taken to the prison yard and are made to sit on top of each other.
