ISKCON temple attack in Bangladesh, idols of deities burnt amid unrest

Bangladesh ISKCON-affiliated religious leader Chinmaya Krishna Das Prabhu was arrested on Monday afternoon. 

According to media reports, he is facing a case of sedition and disturbing communal harmony. Chinmaya Prabhu’s aide Adi Prabhu said that he was taken to the DB office on Mintu Road in Dhaka.

Protests have erupted in Dhaka demanding their release. Protesters have blocked a main road in Dhaka’s Sehbag, chanting slogans such as “We will die for justice, we will fight for them.”

Police arrested him at the airport.

According to Bangladesh media, Chinmay Prabhu had reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on his way to Chittagong from Dhaka, from where he was arrested by detective police. 

ISKCONmembers present at the spot say that the DB police did not show any arrest warrant. They only said that they wanted to talk. After this, they took him in a microbus.

Chinmaya Prabhu, also known as Chinmaya Krishnadas Brahmachari, led protests in Bangladesh against attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.

More than 77 ISKCON temples in Bangladesh

There are more than 77 ISKCON temples in Bangladesh. There is an ISKCON temple in almost every district of the country. It is estimated that more than 50 thousand people are associated with it.

Accused of hoisting saffron flag on Independence Pillar

On October 25, Natan Jagran Manch held a rally at Laldighi Maidan in Chittagong with a demand for 8 points, during which some people hoisted a saffron flag on the Azadi Stambh in New Market Chowk. 

This flag had Aami Sanatani written on it. In this regard, Chinmay Krishna Das has been accused of contempt and insulting the national flag.

ISKCON temple was attacked

During the power struggle in Bangladesh, an ISKCON temple was targeted in Khulna district of Bangladesh on August 6.

 In which idols of Lord Jagannath were burnt. After this attack, Chinmay Das said that three other temples in Chittagong are also under threat.

The Hindu community is working together for their safety. Das said that to escape the violence, Hindus are taking refuge in India via Tripura and Bengal. Chinmaya Das has been raising the issue of security of Hindu temples for a long time.

A rally was taken out against violence against Hindus.

Several cases of violence against the minority Hindu community have come to light in Bangladesh since the recent fall of the government.

 In August, 205 cases of attacks on Hindus were reported in 52 districts of Bangladesh. A rally was organized in Chittagong to protest against this.

 Cases of forced resignations from minorities were also reported after the change of power in August.

According to the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, 49 teachers from the minority community resigned after the formation of a new government in the country.
