A Routine Takeoff Turns Deadly
Under what appeared to be typical circumstances, the twin-engine aircraft took off from London Southend Airport at approximately 4:00 PM local time. But the plane showed symptoms of distress only a few seconds into the flight. Radar data shows that it only made it up 175 feet before veering sharply to the left, flipping inverted, and crashing nose-first into a field next to the airport.
Eyewitness Accounts: “We Saw It Flip Over and Crash”
John Johnson, who was at the airport with his family, said, “It took off normally, but after just a few seconds, it banked hard left and completely flipped over in the air.” Then it struck the earth and burst into a massive ball of flame. It was absolutely terrifying, like something from a movie.
We saw smoke rising quickly and felt a tremendous wave of heat. It was totally consumed by fire.
Emergency Response: Fireball and Chaos
The crash was promptly deemed a “serious incident” by the Essex Police. A rugby field, golf clubs, and portions of the airport were among the nearby facilities that were evacuated. Numerous ambulances, fire engines, and air ambulance services were sent to the scene.
