Elon Musk’s SpaceX company launched India’s GSAT-N2 communication satellite on a Falcon 9 rocket at midnight on November 18.
The 4700-kilogram satellite is designed for a 14-year mission. It has been placed in a geostationary transfer orbit.
This satellite will provide high-speed broadband internet connectivity and digital video-audio transmission.
GSAT-N2 has been designed in such a way that it will provide mobile internet facilities in airplanes during flight.
This is the first time that the Indian Space Research Organization has sent its communication satellite into space with the help of an American businessman’s company.
It is noteworthy that GSAT-N2 is the first isro spacecraft to be sent into space by an American launch vehicle since 1990, after INSAT-1D was launched earlier.
The GSAT-20 satellite has been specially designed to improve communication systems in remote areas.
isro said- The GSAT 20 satellite will be named GSAT-N2 and it will essentially provide broadband internet facilities in remote areas.
After being placed in orbit, India’s Master Control Facility in Hassan, part of Indian Space Research Organization , took control of the satellite. In a few days, it will reach a distance of 36 thousand km from India.
This is the first time that Indian Space Research Organization has used SpaceX’s Falcon-9 heavy lift launcher to launch any of its missions.
The launch was announced by ISRO’s commercial partner New Space India Limited (NSIL) in January 2024.
SpaceX’s Falcon 9 is the first orbital-class rocket that can be reused. The Falcon Heavy is considered the most powerful operational rocket.
The Falcon 9B-5 rocket is 70 meters long and weighs approximately 549 tons.
It has the capacity to carry 16,800 kilograms of weight to Mars. On February 6, 2018, the Falcon Heavy made its first flight.
This was the reason why Elon Musk’s Tesla car was sent into space. So far, the Falcon 9 has been part of 396 launches.
