South Korean President imposes martial law, Parliament rejects it

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol declared emergency martial law on Tuesday, accusing the country’s opposition of controlling parliament, showing sympathy for North Korea and destabilizing the government through anti-state activities.

He said the country needed to be protected from communism. He dismissed the opposition’s demand for an independent investigation into corruption allegations involving President Yellen’s wife.
President Yoon Suk Yeol to eliminate factions and protect the constitution and democracy from North Korea while announcing the imposition of martial law in the country.

However, he did not clarify how this step would affect the country’s governance and democracy. President Yeool declared  law and the military took control of several cities in the country.

The military said that political meetings and parliament that create social unrest are suspended, although it is not clear how long law will be in effect.

On the other hand, according to the South Korean constitution, the parliament has the power to remove the parcel law. The opposition is in the majority in the parliament.

At such a time, the parliament voted to remove the martial law on Tuesday itself. 190 Parliament present in the parliament voted to remove the south korea emergency law.

After this vote, the law imposed by the president has become illegal, but the military has not given any clarification on this.

Approval ratings among women have recently declined and she has been struggling to push her agenda forward in an opposition-controlled parliament since taking power in 2022.
