Prime Minister Modi may visit America next week. According to a report in Hindustan Times, Modi and Trump may meet on February 13. During this visit, Trump may also host a dinner for PM Modi.
After completing his visit to France, Modi will reach Washington DC on the evening of February 12 and will remain in Washington till February 14. During this time, the PM may also meet American businessmen and the Indian community.
PM Modi and President had a conversation on January 27. This was the first time Trump spoke to PM Modi after becoming President again. It was only after this conversation that revealed that Modi may visit the White House in February.
Trump wants to reduce trade deficit with India
During his conversation with PM Modi, US President said that India should buy more American security equipment. He also said that bilateral trade between the US and India should be done properly. This means that Trump wants that there should be no trade deficit in the US.
India is one of America’s largest exporters. According to a BBC report, India exported goods worth $77.5 billion to America in 2023-24. Also, America sold goods worth $42.2 billion to India. In such a situation, America’s trade deficit with India is $35.3 billion. Trump wants to balance this trade deficit.
Trade talks have become more important in the wake of tariffs imposed by Trump on Canada, Mexico and China. The Indian side has already expressed its desire to buy more and more energy from the US. Along with this, India has reduced customs duties on many goods coming from abroad, which can benefit American companies.

Earlier, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in the weekly press briefing that preparations are being made for Prime Minister Modi’s US visit and its date will be announced soon. Spokesperson Jaiswal said that the visit will strengthen the global strategic partnership between India and the US.
