Cyclone Dana with strong winds will hit Odisha late tonight

This cyclone ‘Dana’ formed in the Bay of Bengal is moving towards Odisha at a speed of 18 km per hour. Heavy rain has started since morning in Bhadrak of Odisha state. It will hit near Dhamra port at 2 pm tonight.

According to information provided by the Meteorological Department, the storm will move northwards at a speed of 120 km
This storm will have the most impact in West Bengal and Odisha. Because of this, the flight will be closed from 5 pm to 9 pm on the next day, October 25, i.e. for 16 hours.

A holiday has been declared in schools and colleges on 25th October in Odisha. 10 lakh people are expected to migrate in this district.

 Govt employee’s leave has been cancelled. The Odisha High Court has been closed till October 25.

288 teams of Odisha National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Relief Force (ODRF) and Fire Brigade are being deployed.
Camps have been created for 6 thousand people.

Odisha Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said – about 6 thousand relief camps have been built. 

More than 3 thousand tourists from Puri have been sent back home and hotel bookings have been stopped for the next four days.

Storms impact 6 states

Odisha : 14 out of 30 coastal districts of Odisha are likely to be severely affected. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in Angul, Nayagarh, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Kenduzhar, Jajpur, Cuttack and Dhenkanal, Khordha, Ganjam and Puri districts from October 24 to 26.

West Bengal : East Medinipur, West Medinipur, South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas are likely to receive heavy rain, while Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly and Jhargram are likely to receive heavy rain between October 23 and 24.

Andhra Pradesh : Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh is likely to experience heavy rain with wind speed of 30 to 50 kmph.

Karnataka : Flood-like conditions have been created in Karnataka due to heavy rains ahead of the cyclone.

Tamil Nadu : Puducherry: The IMD has issued a five-day heavy rain warning for Tamil Nadu and several states in eastern India.

What has the government prepared?

The cyclone has come under control of National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) teams on standby in both Odisha and British Bengal.

 In addition, Navy and Coast Guard and Army teams have also gained authority over High.

20 teams of Odisha NDRF, 51 teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Force (ODRF) and 178 teams of Fire Brigade have been deployed.
